Firm Update: September 2026
September was another busy month for MGUY Law Office. We settled two labor disputes, filed and prosecuted cases in Metro Manila, Laguna, and Iloilo, and handled immigration and data privacy matters for our clients. Here is a summary of the month.

Labor and Employment
We settled three labor disputes this month: one for a retainer client on the employer side and one for another client. Early, well-negotiated settlements save time, cost, and management distraction, and they remain a priority in our labor practice.
Criminal Defense and Prosecution
Our criminal practice covered both sides of the courtroom this month:
Secured provisional liberty for a client
Filed a motion to quash in a criminal case
Prosecuted qualified theft and estafa cases in Iloilo
Filed cases for violation of BP 22 (Bouncing Checks Law)
Defended a client charged under RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act)
Obtained the release of a vehicle impounded as an object of a crime
Our reach extends beyond Metro Manila, and we litigate and prosecute wherever our clients need us, including the Visayas.
Family, Property, and Contracts
In the first week of September, we drafted contractual agreements to protect the interests of a landowner. We also filed a petition for declaration of nullity of marriage for a client.
Immigration and Data Privacy
We successfully facilitated a client's deportation in coordination with the concerned consulate and the Bureau of Immigration.
We also sent a formal request under the Data Privacy Act asking a government agency to correct and take down inaccurate personal information about a client that had been published online and republished by several news outlets. Accurate personal data matters even when a client is facing legal consequences, and the Data Privacy Act gives individuals a way to dispute inaccuracies.
Professional Development
Our Managing Attorney completed the Course on Training of Trainers in Mediation, a 32-hour technical training held September 21 to 24, 2026, at the Department of Justice Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR) in Ermita, Manila. Mediation is central to how we resolve disputes, and we look forward to applying what we learned for our clients.
